Theatres are showing the trailer for The Exorcist: Believer ahead of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer this weekend
Blumhouse Productions, Morgan Creek Entertainment, and director David Gordon Green are teaming up to make a new trilogy of The Exorcist sequels for Universal and Peacock, starting with The Exorcist: Believer – which is scheduled to reach theatres on October 13th. Yesterday, Universal unveiled a trio of posters for the film, and now it has come to our attention that the trailer for The Exorcist: Believer is attached to this weekend’s Universal release, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer! (Read our Oppenheimer review HERE.)
We don’t know when the trailer will be making its way online, but if you head out to see Oppenheimer this weekend, chances are you’ll get to see the trailer on the big screen. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray got the chance to see a trailer for The Exorcist: Believer at CinemaCon earlier this year, and you can hear about it at THIS LINK.
Universal and Peacock forked over an amount somewhere in the range of $400 million to acquire the rights to distribute this trilogy. Green previously directed a trilogy of Halloween sequels. He crafted the story for The Exorcist: Believer with Peter Sattler (Broken Diamonds), then wrote the screenplay with Danny McBride (who wrote all three of the new Halloweens with him) and their Halloween Kills co-writer Scott Teems.
Ellen Burstyn reprises the role of Chris MacNeil, the character she played in the 1973 classic The Exorcist (watch it HERE), and Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton) plays a a character who tracks down Chris MacNeil after his child becomes possessed. Odom and Burstyn are joined in the cast by Lidya Jewett (Nightbooks), Jennifer Nettles (The Righteous Gemstones), Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), Okwui Okpokwasili (Master), and newcomer Olivia Marcum, playing unspecified roles, and Raphael Sbarge (Carnosaur) as a pastor. Original The Exorcist star Linda Blair is in there as well, reprising the role of Chris MacNeil’s daughter Regan.
The Exorcist: Believer is being produced by Jason Blum, David Robinson, and James Robinson. Green, Danny McBride, Stephanie Allain, and Couper Samuelson serve as executive producers. Ryan Turek is overseeing the project for Blumhouse.
